A cedar room, heated by fire
We light the stove at three, two hours before the first guests arrive. Twelve people fit on the benches, so it never feels crowded, and the steam stays soft because we pour water on the stones by hand.
Between rounds you walk down the jetty and into the lake through a hole we cut in the ice every morning. No music, no screens, no rush. Bring a swimsuit; we have towels, robes, felt hats and hot linden tea.
- 88°on the top bench, by the stones
- 4°in the lake, all winter long
- 12places in each session, never more

How to sauna, the slow way
Three rounds take about ninety minutes. Your body does the rest.
Heat10–15 min
Sit high for strong heat, low for gentle. Breathe through your nose and leave when you want to, not when the clock says.
Cold30 sec – 1 min
Down the jetty, into the ice hole, out again. Our host stands by the ladder for anyone trying it for the first time.
Rest10 min
Wrap up by the fire pit with linden tea and watch the lake. This is the part people come back for.
Repeatthree rounds
Then drive home slowly and sleep like a stone.
Around the sauna
A winter evening at Alder Steam, from the first log to the last plunge.
What guests say
“Came in frozen, floated out a different person. The ice hole is far less scary than it looks.”
Ines R. · comes every Thursday
“Proper wood heat, soft steam and nobody talking about work. I drive forty minutes for this every week.”
Mark T.
“We booked the private evening for my sister’s birthday. Robes, tea, stars over the lake. Nothing to improve.”
Olga S.
